Voices sounded from the kitchen. Ellie went inside to find Betsy and Lisa back home with their arms full of baby gifts.

“Ellie, you have to take a look. These stuffed animals are so precious. Check out the tiny little sleepers, too. Aren’t they the cutest things?” Lisa said as she opened the refrigerator.

Ellie looked through the bags of gifts, oohing and aahing with Betsy and Lisa. The gifts were perfect for little Maili.

“Are you guys just going to hand everything to Abby tomorrow? I think we need to have a welcome home party. Everyone should be here.”

“So you’re thinking the weekend would be better?” Betsy asked.

“Of course, everyone would be at home. It would also give us slackers a few days to buy gifts and invite people like Erik’s family and a few friends.”

“You are one smart cookie, Ellie,” Betsy said. “I can’t believe we didn’t already have something organized. Let’s plan it for Saturday.”

Lisa ran to the library to get a pad of paper and a pen. She had Abby’s address book in her hand, too. In the kitchen, the three ladies drank tea and wrote a list of those to invite. Melanie could give them additional suggestions when she got home. She knew Abby better than anyone else.
